A red pear sat in the middle of a room in a house not yet constructed. The pear was not on a table, as one might suspect, but on the wood floor that was yet to be installed. Our daughter who had not yet been born walked across the floor that was not there in the house that was not yet constructed. She bit into the pear that was not ripe and would never be. She began to tear from eyes not yet formed and reached out to us. We did not comfort the daughter not yet born. It wouldn’t have been fair because we changed our minds about her.
