Dear Reader,
Welcome to Issue Thirty-Thirty of The Collagist!
First, we'd like to offer a reminder that our 2012 Collagist Chapbook Contest is now taking entries in all genres, including short stories, flash fiction, novellas, poetry, and non-fiction. Manuscripts for all genres should be between 35 and 80 pages in length. The winner will be published by Dzanc Books, plus receive $250 and 25 author copies.
We'd also like to congratulate contributors Lance Olsen and C. Dale Young (who also has work in this issue) on being named 2012 Guggenheim Fellows this past week. We're incredibly happy for both of them, and grateful to have had the chance to publish their work in the past.
And for our final piece of news, a special call for submissions: We're looking for craft essays (about any genre) to publish this summer, focusing on some area of writerly interest. We'll be kicking things off with in June with an essay on obsession in fiction, and we'd like to publish other craft essays throughout the summer months, so please feel free to submit if you've got something that might fit us.
In Issue Thirty-Three, we have new fiction by Callie Collins, Tara Laskowski, xTx, and returning contributor Matt Runkle, as well as excerpts from My Only Wife by Jac Jemc, A Cloth House by Joseph Riippi, Ghosting by Kirby Gann, Falcons on the Floor by Justin Sirois, Kino by Jürgen Fauth, and Unknown Arts by William Walsh.
In addition to two poems by C. Dale Young, we have new poetry by Jane Wong, Nancy Reddy, and Molly Brodak, who also appears in The Collagist for the second time this month. Our non-fiction this month comes from Addie Tsai's work-in-progress, What Came Between Them.
In book reviews, we have coverage of Minuet for Guitar by Vitomil Zupan (reviewed by Nathan Huffstutter), Three Ways of the Saw by Matt Mullins (reviewed by Mark Staniforth), When She Woke by Hillary Jordan (reviewed by Vanessa Blakeslee), Big Questions by Anders Nilsen (reviewed by Tanner Hadfield), Vladimir's Mustache by Stephan Clark (reviewed by Adam Gallari), and Aftermath by Scott Nadelson (reviewed by Andrew Scott).
As always, thanks to all of the above contributors for being a part of this issue, and thanks to you and all the rest of our readers for visiting us this month. I hope you enjoy the issue!
Sincerely,
Matt Bell
