Dear Reader,
Welcome to Issue Thirty-Four of The Collagist!
First, a reminder: our 2012 Collagist Chapbook Contest is now taking entries in all genres, including short stories, flash fiction, novellas, poetry, and non-fiction. Manuscripts for all genres should be between 35 and 80 pages in length. The winner will be published by Dzanc Books, plus receive $250 and 25 author copies.
In Issue Thirty-Four, we have new fiction by Sutherland Douglass, Miles Klee, Genevieve Hudson, and returning contributor Tim Horvath, whose first collection, Understories, is out this month from Bellevue Literary Press), as well as excerpts from The Lola Quartet by Emily St. John Mandel, Jonah Man by Christopher Narozny, and Sea of Trees by Robert James Russell.
In poetry, we have work by Victoria Bosch Murray and Dara Barnat, as well as returning contributors Keith Taylor and David James. Our non-fiction includes three micro-essays by Nicole Walker, and our creative audio comes from former fiction contributor Elizabeth Mikesch.
Our book reviews this month include coverage of Tales of the New World by Sabina Murray (reviewed by Adam Cogbill Parker), Four for a Quarter by Michael Martone (reviewed by Kathryn Houghton), Thirteen Fugues by Jennifer Natalya Fink (reviewed by Laura Ender), Girls in Trouble by Douglas Light (reviewed by Peter Fontaine), and I Remember by Shane Allison (reviewed by Renée E. D'Aoust).
As always, thanks to all of the above contributors for being a part of this issue, and thanks to you and all the rest of our readers for visiting us this month. I hope you enjoy the issue!
Sincerely,
Matt Bell
