Dear Reader,
Welcome to Issue Thirty-Five of The Collagist!
First, a reminder: our 2012 Collagist Chapbook Contest is now taking entries in all genres, including short stories, flash fiction, novellas, poetry, and non-fiction. Manuscripts for all genres should be between 35 and 80 pages in length. The winner will be published by Dzanc Books, plus receive $250 and 25 author copies. The deadline is June 15, at 11:59pm—which means this is your last chance to submit. Don't delay!
In Issue Thirty-Five, we have new fiction from Alan Stewart Carl, Liz Wyckoff, Alice Bolin, and returning contributor Matthew Salesses. Our novel excerpts this month come from four book all out this month: Zombie by J.R. In poetry, we have new work by Emilia Phillips, Sally Wen Mao, Rob MacDonald, and Allyson Boggess. Our non-fiction this month is a craft essay titled "The Object is Always Magic: Narrative as Collection," written by Gregory Howard.
Our book reviews this month include coverage of Grief Suite by Bobbi Lurie (reviewed by Lisa Flowers), Death Wishing by Laura Ellen Scott (reviewed by Marshall Yarbrough), The City She Was by Carmen Giménez Smith (reviewed by Jacey Blue Renner), My Father's House by Ben Tanzer (reviewed by Anna March), and In Great Company by Michael J.
