Rachel Richardson
But this is about the sea.
Her body, which envelops.
Which is a living organism
as well as a home. And what about pleasure?
Love is not a diminished thing:
I love my husband
even as I would leave him for the sea.
And pleasure, pleasure— the answer
as to why the first humans carved with flint
the insides out of trees.
To enter the sea,
and be rocked—
To lie in the hollow of one body
and float in the next….
This is where I was,
filled with desire.
A body. Lying in the hollow of a tree.
Waiting to be pushed out into the open,
into the other body, the sea.
