Dear Reader,
Welcome to the fourteenth issue of The Collagist!
This month brings a few changes to the magazine, including a new design, a new home (we're now at http://www.dzancbook.org/thecollagist/ -- update our bookmarks!), and a new blog address (update your readers, as we're blogging along with the new Dzanc Books blog: /blog/). And that's not all!
Starting this month, you can also subscribe to The Collagist via RSS, through Google Reader or whatever blog reader software you prefer, by subscribing to the following URL: http://www.dzancbooks.org/the-collagist/rss.xml
That feed will deliver not just the Table of Contents each month, but the full text of the fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and book reviews published here every month, making it even easier to keep up with The Collagist and its contributors.
Also starting this month: We have a new Book Review Editor, Gabriel Blackwell, who will begin taking over the book review section immediately. Gabriel's been part of The Collagist several times over the past year, both as a fiction writer and as a book reviewer, and I'm incredibly happy to have him and his abilities onboard. I know he's very enthusiastic to get started with next month's issue. I hope you'll join me in welcoming him to the staff.
As you can see, it's a big month for changes, but I sincerely believe all these little differences will help us deliver the best experience we can for our readers, as well as increase the exposure we can give our many great contributors. Thank you for putting up with any growing pains the site might exhibit during the coming weeks, and please now that we're working to make sure its as perfect as possble.
Despite all these changes, not everything here is different: One thing that I don't expect to ever change is how excited I am to be presenting to you a new issue, and of course this month is no different.
This month, we have fiction by Tina May Hall, Robert Kloss, Susannah Elisabeth Pabot, and Kyle Winkler, as well as novel excerpts from David Rhodes' The Last Fair Deal Going Down (Milkweed Editions) and Ingrid Winterbach's To Hell with Cronjé (Open Letter).
In poetry, we have new work from Alexander Lumans, Erin Lyndal Martin, Elizabeth Onusko, and Nick Ripatrazone.
In non-fiction, we have pieces from the last two finalists from our 2010 Non-Fiction Contest, Joseph Harrington's excerpt from his manuscript No Soap and David LeGault's "Breaking Point."
Finally, we have book reviews of The Orange Eats Creeps by Grace Krilanovich, The Evolutionary Revolution by Lily Hoang, A Life on Paper by Georges-Olivier Châteaureynaud, The Book of Knowledge by Chad Faries, as well as a video review by Anna Clark of I Curse the River of Time by Per Petterson, the first book we've been interested enough to cover twice—it was also reviewed by Brad Felver in our May issue.
As always, thanks to all of our contributors for letting us publish their fine work. Thanks also to everyone who reads the magazine, everyone who sends us submissions, and of course everyone who takes the time to post about the issue to their blogs, Facebook, or anywhere else. We appreciate your time and talents, and can't thank you enough for sharing them with us.
Sincerely,
Matt Bell
