Dear Reader,
Happy holidays, and welcome to Issue Seventeen!
With this issue, we've reached the end of our first full year, and wanted to say thanks again to all of our contributors, to our readers, to the many folks that make this possible. I'm thankful to have such an excellent staff, which currently includes Matthew Olzmann, Gabriel Blackwell, and Tyler Gobble. 2011 issues were also worked on by Liana Imam and Marie Schutt, whose efforts helped make the magazine what it was, from its earliest issues. Without these people, The Collagist wouldn't be possible,
We've also have been incredibly lucky this past year to have the privilege of publishing so much exciting work at The Collagist, an honor that made picking just six pieces to nominate for the Pushcart Prize very difficult. After much deliberation, we decided on the following six pieces:
Fiction:
- "If Your Light Must Leave You" by Amanda Goldblatt
- "Cowboy Good Stuff's Four True Loves" by Joseph Scapellato
- "Douthat; or: The Enfanta --o-----" by Mark Edmund Doten
Non-Fiction:
Poetry:
- "The Hanged Man" by C. Dale Young
- "'I want to pluck the chill from cold gardenias" by Hossannah Asuncion
Congratulations again to these six writers, and thanks so much to all of our other contributors who were part of our 2010 issues.
Looking back at the year again, there are so many stories and poems and essays that I'm so glad we got the chance to publish, and I hope you'll continue to go back through the archives and read whatever you missed. Thanks so much for being a part of 2010, and don't forget to join us again in the new year. With our first 2011 issue just a month away, I can already tell you that we've got lots of exciting writers to share with you, and I hope you'll love what's to come as much as I already have.
